Scapegoat

The term "scapegoat" originates from the ancient Israelite ritual of Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), described in Leviticus 16. The high priest would cast lots over two male goats: one "for Yahweh" (sacrificed for the people's sins) and one "for Azazel" (sent into the wilderness).
